Peninsula Federal Credit Union

Peninsula Federal Credit Union proudly serves three major counties in the upper peninsula of Michigan state. After outgrowing their original office space, the Peninsula team sought La Macchia Group’s help to design and build a new main office to drive operational efficiency and support future business growth.

This new building will accommodate both a growing team and growing member base and needed to reflect the city’s midwestern heritage and SEG history. The building architecture creates a sense of presence and strength while the glass invites people to come inside. Throughout the branch interior and back office, La Macchia Group’s designers blended natural elements of wood, iron ore, and copper/gold tones to pay tribute to the uniqueness of Michigan’s upper peninsula and logging/milling roots. Giving the space an overall mid-century modern look aligned well with the credit union's brand, creating a workplace the team could call home.

In the branch lobby, Peninsula wanted to provide a more engaging experience for members and employees, fostering deeper connections and pride of membership.

  • La Macchia Group’s Vivalociti team addressed Peninsula’s ask with a bright and inviting digital Welcome Wall, complete with custom content inspired by local scenery. Staff can easily update the Welcome Wall content or other digital display messages through Vivalociti’s content management platform.
  • Unique design elements pay tribute to the local wood-working and craftsman culture, reinforcing the credit union’s brand.
  • To further fuel a more personal connection with members and provide convenient options for a variety of services, La Macchia Group incorporated light-filled private offices for appointments and signings, three teller pods for transaction service, and a full-service drive-thru with ITMs operating 24 hours a day.

As for any financial institution's main office, planning the employee space was also a critical element of this project. Dedicated employee workspace, break and training rooms, casual and formal meeting spaces were a must for the growing credit union.

  • The open office design and many collaboration areas encourage employees to connect with other cross-functional team members to increase productivity.
  • Employee workstations were configured to prevent employees from facing one another and call-center pods were set up to accommodate physical distancing amidst COVID-19 health concerns.
  • Conference rooms leverage the latest technology for hosting in-person or virtual meetings and feature convenient scheduling tools.

To further differentiate them as the financial provider of choice and reinforce their connection to the community, Peninsula was proud to incorporate a new Community Room which features the same easy-to-use conferencing and meeting technology, while also incorporating a kitchenette and separate entrance. This feature enables Peninsula to serve its members and local community in a unique way, as a safe and highly functional meeting space for groups large and small.

With COVID-19 posing unique challenges to construction, La Macchia Group adapted quickly, setting extensive safety provisions on site to ensure the project could progress safely. Once complete, La Macchia Group also helped the credit union to implement various health & safety requirements so they could open, giving employees and members the opportunity to experience the final product in its newest form. Peninsula Federal Credit Union is now primed to continue carrying out its services, adding new staff to its team, and fulfilling its mission of: “to be the trusted financial partner within our communities”.
